Vespa NIGHT Food Tour
The darker the night gets; the more vivid Saigon becomes! Riding pillion on a vintage Vespa is the
best way to feel the city like the locals do. Get ready for a fascinating journey tonight to discover
Vietnams largest and one of the worlds most iconic cities after the sun sets and the streets really
come alive. Meet up with your driver around 6.30pm, who will assist you with fitting your helmet
and hop on an authentic vintage Vespa with the drivers’ models dating from the 1960s-1970s, real
classics! Our first stop is at a small Vietnamese Banh Mi bakery popular with the locals, so there is
usually a line, but we promise its worth the short wait, before heading to a very special local coffee
shop with a fascinating history for a briefing. Keep on riding to a hidden rustic seafood restaurant
and mingle with locals over a glass of beer while enjoying tasty seafood treats. Saigon’s seafood
restaurants have the most diverse ways of cooking to bring out every delicious flavor, including
delicious snail recipes. Snail-eating has become an irreplaceable part of Saigon Street food culture and
there are many varieties and flavors, all of which are delicious! There are other authentic traditional
dishes you can enjoy if you are not a fan of snails and shells. We then continue our ride, zigzagging
through the back streets and bustling boulevards, through the brightly lit perfumed flower market to
a fascinating old apartment complex that becomes extremely lively at night with hundreds of food
and drinks stalls. Take a break at a 3-generation dessert shop to try different hand-made sweet soups
from lotus seeds and seasonal fruits. End your night at a cozy speakeasy tucked away in a quiet

Day 5, 12 March 2025: Siem Reap
Breakfast at hotel.
This morning, depart by Remork to visit the ancient city of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the
Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by an 8-m high
wall, drawing a perfect square. Enter the city through the ancient South Gate, an impressive stone
gate carved with Elephants and four giant faces. On each side of the entrance path a row of 54 gods
or demons is holding the sacred Naga snake. From here, continue to Bayon Temple in the exact
center of the city. This 12th century masterpiece is a study in grandeur and is well-known for its 54 towers with enigmatic faces representing the 54 provinces of the Great Khmer Empire. The Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King are also must-visits as they are both known for their intricate bas-reliefs.
Return to Siem Reap for lunch in town and take a little beat from the sun heat at your hotel.
This afternoon, depart for the visit to Ta Prohm temple, built in the mid-12th to early 13th
centuries. Ta Prohm is unique in that it has been left largely as it was found: overgrown by jungle
trees and vines, with many parts of the temple crumbling to the ground. This makes Ta Prohm one
of the most picturesque and memorable of the Angkor temples.
Then, visit Preah Khan, the ‘sacred sword’, a 12th century temple built under Jayavarman VII. The World
Monuments Fund is currently working on preserving this temple with its myriad halls and pavilions, causeways and moats, and sculpted garudas and serpents on the exterior walls. Once inside the second enclosure, look for the delicate frieze of ‘apsaras’ or celestial dancers, in the Hall of Dancers. If the time permits, Enjoy the sunset from Pre Rup Temple.

Day 6, 13 March 2025: Siem Reap
Breakfast at hotel
This morning, you will visit Angkor Wat, the largest temple in the world, with a volume of stone
equaling that of the Cheops pyramid in Egypt. It is unlike all the other Khmer temples in that it faces
west, and is inspired by 12th Century Hinduism. Its symmetrical towers are stylized on the modern
Cambodian flag. Conceived by Suryavarman II, Angkor Wat took an estimated 30 years to build. It is
generally believed to have been a funeral temple for the king. It has been occupied continuously by
Buddhist monks and is well preserved. Intricate bas-reliefs surround Angkor Wat on four sides.
Each tells a story. The most celebrated of these is the Churning of the Ocean of Milk, which is located on the east wing. In it the Naga serpent is twisted by demons and gods to spurt out the elixir
of life.
Note:
- During the visit to the Bakan tower of Angkor Wat temple, visitors are required to wear proper attire, covering shoulders and knees as this temple is still considered as a sacred site (no short, miniskirt or short trousers). It will be closed on the Buddhist Sabbath Days, the Buddhist religious days, four days a month in accordance with the Lunar Calendar.
This afternoon, we will drive you to Kampong Khleang which is one of the largest communities on
the great Tonle Sap Lake and is located 35 km east of Siem Reap, roughly a 45-minute drive. It is far
less visited than the touristy Chong Kneas, the main port and town on the northern part of the Tonle
Sap and it is nearly 10 times the size of Kompong Phluk, another village which is near the Roluos
Temples.
Visitors to Kompong Khleang during the dry season experience a forest of towering, stilted houses rising up to 10 meters above the water, known as “bamboo skyscrapers”. In the wet season water levels are much higher and almost reach the buildings, making them seem like they are floating. Like Kampong Phluk, Kampong Khleang is a permanent community within the floodplain of the great lake, with an economy based in fishing and surrounded by flooded forest. It has both Cambodian (Khmer) stilted houses on the waterways leading to the lake and floating Vietnamese minority homes on the lake itself, which move throughout the year with
constantly changing water levels.
